The Ostrich Club is excited to host Haus Party Wines for a relaxed night of tasting and a lot of fun! From figurative islands to literal ones, sommelier, Alana Steele and Bronwyn Langstroth will take you on a journey using the iconic cult classic, “High Fidelity” as our guide. Throughout the film, our anti hero uses top five lists to create an order in a chaotic world and we asked industry professionals throughout the HRM the tough (maybe toughest) question: “What would be your top 5 desert island wines be? Because so many of those wines are oh so out of reach for us, we have decided to bring the islands to you! Choosing wines from of variety of islands around the world, we highlight terroir, production methods, indigenous grapes, regional specificity, and the like. We do it in a list of our top 5 island wines and cannot wait to share them with you! If you haven’t seen the movie yet, we suggest a watch! Come donning your favourite band tee, think of your own top five and prepare for an evening of fun debates on what makes a “good list” (playlist, wine list, pro con list etc). Open minds are required, ability to quote the movie is optional.

About Haus Party – Bronwyn. Haus Party Wines was born out of a desire to talk about wine in a way that didn’t leave anyone in the dust. Remembering that wine is something we turn to in times of celebration, there is zero pretentious conversation and lots of good times. I have spent years educating people how to ask for exactly what they want whether they are talking to sommeliers, servers, or at your local liquor store without feeling intimidated. Wine deserves to be fun, and you deserve to have fun with it. Cheers!

About Alana Steele. Alana has a unique talent for blending encyclopedic wine knowledge with a casual and fun approachability. Now, after dedicating years to learning about the why, when, where, and how of wine, she’s shifted her focus to how she can use that skill to take some of the formality out of it all. “I love talking about dirt and vintage variation as much as the next somm, but sometimes you just have to make it relatable.” Alana curates the wine program at The Ostrich Club and Little Oak Bar with a strong focus on low intervention and sustainability, always looking for obscure and fun products to create a unique and exciting dining experience. Alana is a familiar face in the wine scene of the Maritimes - she's a CAPS Certified Sommelier, holds both a French Wine Scholar and Italian Wine Certification with the WSG and WSET Level 3 in wines.. She is also an educator with CAPS AC, instructing the Sommelier Management module.  Alana is particularly gifted in pairing wines with not only food but also with 90's hip-hop bangers.
