  • Note: working sommeliers by CAPS standards is defined as sommeliers earning more than 50% of their income working in the capacity of a sommelier at a licensed establishment or in retail.
  • Trade Only Blind Tasting - This special blind tasting add-on, is intended for working sommeliers (trade) defined by CAPS as accredited sommeliers and equivalents (CAPS Certified Sommelier, ISG Certified Sommelier, WSET 3 or Diploma and sommelier students graduating in 2019). Note: working sommeliers by CAPS standards is defined as sommeliers earning more than 50% of their income working in the capacity of a sommelier at a licensed establishment or in retail.

Description of Tasting Event : CAPS- Atlantic chapter invites you to a Taste of California in support of Canada's preeminent sommeliers, Carl Villeneuve-LePage (Best Sommelier of Canada) and Pier-Alexis Souliere (Best Sommelier of the Americas). Both Carl and Pier-Alexis will be representing Canada on the world stage, as they compete for the title of Best Sommelier of the World in Belgium this March.

This event is a fundraiser to support the massive costs it takes to become one of the world's best sommeliers including training sessions with world renowned wine, stress management, and service coaches.

At this event you will have the opportunity of tasting numerous premium California wines and meet Canada's top sommelier.

Working sommeliers (more than 50% of income generated from work at restaurants, retail or agencies) in attendance will also have the opportunity to win a paid trip to the Vancouver Wine Festival.* [See our Special Trade-Only Blind Tasting add-on opportunity].


SPECIAL TRADE*-ONLY CALIFORNIA BLIND TASTING

LOCATION : Prince George Hotel

TIME : 5:30 PM-6:30 PM, JANUARY 22, 2019

SEATING LIMITED TO 20 REGISTRANTS.

This special blind tasting in advance of the main tasting will consist of 30 minutes of tasting instruction by Carl Villeneuve-LePage (current Best Sommelier of Canada) followed by a 30-minute blind tasting competition. The top 3 scores will be provided the opportunity to submit a subsequent written component (post event). The winner of the written component, as determined by a panel of CAPS National events members will earn a trip to the Vancouver Wine Festival.

This tasting is open to all accredited and working sommeliers. The winner must agree to represent CAPS Atlantic and be registered with CAPS Atlantic before embarking on the trip to Vancouver.

*Trade Only Blind Tasting - This special blind tasting add-on, is intended for working sommeliers (trade) defined by CAPS as accredited sommeliers and equivalents (CAPS Certified Sommelier, ISG Certified Sommelier, WSET 3 or Diploma and sommelier students graduating in 2019). Note: working sommeliers by CAPS standards is defined as sommeliers earning more than 50% of their income working in the capacity of a sommelier at a licensed establishment or in retail. Sommeliers must be registered for the main wine tasting component to participate.
